In the scholarly study, tDCS was put on a area of the mind called the pre-frontal cortex of individuals with schizophrenia for 20 minutes. One of the features of schizophrenia is decreased human brain activity in the pre-frontal cortex, a location at the front end of the mind used for thinking, motivation and learning. The team discovered that tDCS improved learning capabilities in those individuals who already demonstrated some potential to understand during a short testing session without human brain stimulation.
